So we had to share the cutest DIY Valentine's Day gift posted on one of our favorite blogs Eat, Drink, Chic. Valentine's Day is just about spending time with whomever is special in your life. Fancy restaurants and expensive gifts are fabulous but not always necessary. Take the time to do something understated yet memorable for your sweetie :) V-Day usually falls on a random weekday, you both have to work, and restaurants will be on overload. Save yourself the hassle and make it a cosy night in, just you two. Here's what to do:

1. Find a cute popcorn container to contain all the goodies
2. Make sure your invitation includes some cute details of what the evening will include {i.e. snuggle under a blanket, order take-out, indulge in champagne, popcorn and candy in front of your favorite movie}
3. Instead of swapping gifts, write love letters or poems.
4. Enjoy!

Color + Psychology

We consider ourselves planners who LOVE color. Color is such an important element in our lives and even more important when designing and styling. When picking the colors for your wedding design, did you consider color psychology? Colors can signify different things depending upon the culture or region, and even personality. What do your wedding colors say about you?

{Gold} is the color of success, achievement and triumph. Associated with abundance and prosperity, luxury and quality, prestige and sophistication, value and elegance, the color psychology of gold implies affluence, material wealth and extravagance.
{Silver} has a feminine energy; it is related to the moon and the ebb and flow of the tides - it is fluid, emotional, sensitive and mysterious. It's soothing, calming and purifying. It is associated with prestige and wealth, seen as a glamorous and sophisticated. It works well with most other colors - it illuminates and reflects the energy of those colors which surround it. Silver is more light-hearted and optimistic than gray.

{White} suggests goodness, purity and innocence. Its elusive nature provides serenity and the essence of perfection. The individual who chooses white as a favorite color seeks excellence and enlightenment in all philosophies. Simplicity, purity and recognition are a constant endeavor.
{Black} is considered to represent sophistication, power, sexuality, and elegance. This color can be high-impact or understated, depending upon any contrasting colors used.

{Red} is the single most dynamic and passionate color, symbolizes love, rage and courage. Demanding attention, red has great emotional impact. Those who select red are aggressive, impulsive and strive for success.

{Pink} is red's understated cousin. Pink is thought to represent femininity and romance. It is emotional in character, connotes a sensitive heart. Universally representing caring and sharing, pink indicates a strong personality. The affectionate and concerned individual prefers pink. Gently, you offer love, attention and nurturing to those in distress.
{Purple} is historically known as the color of royalty, purple still implies elegance and wealth. In lighter shades, purple is considered very youthful.
{Green} is the color of life, and represents freshness, security and tranquility. Green creates an atmosphere that is calm and restful, and characterizes the intense power of nature. If you selected green, you seek stability, balance and persistence. You are a moral and affectionate individual.

{Blue}symbolizes tranquility. Blue is cooling, soothing and orderly. The color of royalty, blue brings comfort and serenity to our lives. Blue lovers have a basic need for a calm, harmonious and tension-free existence. Capable, conservative and sensitive to others, you make a loyal and trustworthy friend.

{Yellow} is truly joyous and virtuous in its purest form. Yellow exudes warmth, inspiration and vitality, and is the happiest of all colors. Yellow signifies communication, enlightenment, sunlight and spirituality. If your favorite color is yellow, this indicates that you look forward to the future, and that you are intellectual, highly imaginative and idealistic. You tend to have a cheerful spirit and have an expectation of greater happiness.
{Orange} is the color of autumn, spice form and design. In bright tones, orange is jovial, cheerful and playful. Deepened, it becomes exotic and exciting. If orange is your choice, you have abundant energy with an eye for structure and organization. Your social nature finds you surrounded by family and friends.

{Gray} is emotionally-neutral. It does imply a certain amount of conservative tradition and formality. If gray is your favorite color, you tend to be a careful, articulate individual who is focused and dedicated to your commitments.

{Brown} is sensuous in nature, represents an importance of hearth and home. It symbolizes physical comfort, ease and contentment. Should you seek brown, you are conscientious, steady and dependable. Your inner security, honesty and high virtue show that you take life seriously.

Ombre

A fun trend for 2012 is ombre. In French, ombre means "shaded". This haute look using graduating colors from light to dark is being used in everything from flowers to cake to stationery to linens to wedding attire. Steampunk Chic

We met an adorable couple this weekend and we are SO excited about their wedding! The groom wants to incorporate steampunk elements while the bride wants to keep it vintage chic, with some antique carnival elements. We did our research and came up with a design to beautifully balance and tie the two rustic concepts together so they get the best of both worlds. So what the heck is steampunk!? We had to figure it out too! Steampunk is a sub-culture genre that mixes Science Fiction with Victorian era fashion. It can look a bit post-apocalyptic, and then again, it's also kinda futuristic. It's a world filled with sepia tones fused with rich jewel colored accessories, lots of bronze, brass and copper, with shapes of cogs and vintage typewriter keys. Fashions include plenty of lace-ups, corsets, buckles, hats, goggles, stripes, and crinoline. Check out these elements in this super cool steampunk chic wedding! Be Inspired! {Tell us a little about yourself and services}
I am a 22 year old photographer based outside of Philadelphia, PA. Growing up in a family of artists, I have a BFA and a fine art approach to wedding photography. I have been photographing weddings for four years and can’t imagine doing anything else, which is why I invest so much of myself in each wedding I photograph. When shooting a wedding, I keep my approach relaxed and natural so as to capture real moments as they happen, not create false memories by being intrusive.

{When did you fall in love with photography?}
I remember walking into my first wedding as a second shooter, heart racing and a huge smile on my face. I had no idea what to expect, but the instant I saw the bride’s face light up as she stepped into her wedding gown...I was smitten. I fell in love with love, as it were, because the joy of a wedding is infectious. To be able to capture those beautiful moments in that first wedding made me addicted to wedding photography and from that point on there was no turning back.

{What is your #1 piece of advice to brides?}
Walk slowly...and I’m not only talking about your walk down the isle. Remember to breathe and enjoy the day, because it will fly by. If you remember to relax and take in every moment to it’s fullest, your weeks of planning and anticipation will pay off. Your vendors are there to assure your day goes perfectly, so don’t worry, just enjoy!

How To: Spunk Up Your Next Social Affair

So because we can't help ourselves we add flair to any social gathering that we can :-) For owner and principle planner, Shayla's birthday (that happened to fall on Halloween weekend), we decided at the very last minute to do a play on the infamous Cirque Du Soleil for her birthday celebration. Any party or gathering is SO much more FuN aNd ExCiTiNG with a theme and there are so many good ones to come up with! It's also really simple and cost-effective to do and the memory will be priceless. Here is the skinny....

{Set the tone}
It all starts with the invitation.
{Small touches make great statements}
The decor and color scheme must bring the theme to life. Note the fun stationery, props, balloons, banners, etc.
{Coordinate the food and beverage}
Get creative and have some fun with this! Note the popcorn & cotton candy :-)
{Dress The Part}

We are tagging along for an e-session for one of our 2012 couples with the fabulous Jenni Grace Photography today! Nowadays couples and photographers are getting so creative with fun engagement sessions. We love to see the final images! We always encourage our clients to take a change of clothes and any fun props (signs, books, balloons, frames, pets, etc.) that really help show their personalities! Highlighting the date is always a key part of an e-session. For today's urban/city shoot, we made a cute date sign incorporating their wedding colors and are bringing along some frames for funky head shots. We were googling (a guilty pleasure) and found some super cool save-the-date shots.....Be Inspired!

The Greatest Of These Is Love: Nina & Craig

Mr. & Mrs. Wade are one-of-a-kind. From the way they joke with each other, to how involved they are at their church, and the twinkle in both of their eyes, their love was clear from the moment we met. This sweet pair had a wonderful ceremony and reception at the close of this summer. Over 200 of the couple's friends and family witnessed this pink and purple union. Sophistication, style, and elegance were some of the words that described how they envisioned their dream wedding. Some of the elements we used to embody their vision were white draping at the ceremony altar, tall cylinders and pillar candles lining the aisle, a mix of tall and low centerpieces with hanging chandeliers and crystals, pink and purple uplighting, and custom stationery to tie it all together. Apple of My Eye: Amy & Andrew

Amy & Andrew said 'I do' on a picture-perfect fall day. When we met the couple, Andrew was in his first year of medical residency and Amy was in her last year of medical school so both have very busy and hectic schedules. They were so sweet, simple, and just so easy to work with! Amy's only request was to use barrels of apples as her centerpieces and fall colors. Apple picking is something the couple loves to do together. They donated the apples from the reception to the church. It was the ideal September day with the perfect autumn hues in the florals, custom stationery, and linens. Rustic Chic: Ramsey & Matt

Ramsey and Matt tied the knot this past July. This sweet couple needed help tying all of their great ideas into a simple, chic, and rustic design. We had so much fun bringing their vision to life! From the beautiful, natural elements of their venue's garden, main house, and farm house to combining beautiful florals with potted plants to the pops of pistachio and purple to the personal touches of the cornhole guest sign-in and escort cards on a window shutter. Moreover, the 30 foot barn doors to the reception were draped with white fabric and there were chalkboard details for their signature drinks and dinner menu. We absolutely love the clutch purses adorned with flowers opposed to the traditional bouquet for the bridesmaids!!! These adorable details made this wedding one-of-a-kind.

Munaluchi Bride Fall/Winter 2011

We are so pumped about the fourth issue of Munaluchi Bride. They've released the cover and because we are so in love with all things floral, we are swoon over this cover page! The dress was inspired by a Marchesa gown and created using steams from 250 white phalaenopsis orchids, 400 white hydrangeas, 300 white tibet roses, and 100 pink rosia vendela roses. It took 3 people and 24 hours to create this piece of art, envisioned by none other than Preston Bailey. If the issue is anything like the cover, we are in for some fabulous inspiration!! {When did you fall in love with photography?}
I fell in love with photography shortly after my own wedding. We had a wonderful photographer who was able to beautifully capture all the moments and details of the day. I still feel amazing when I look at the images. I wanted to be able to do the same for my new family, not just one day, but all the time. I bought a camera, took classes, and workshops, read tutorials, and practiced, practiced, practiced. I quickly found myself starting to "think in pictures." The more I learned and the more photos I took, the more I fell in love with photography and wanted to expand my new passion and talent to others, so I developed my business.

{What is the #1 piece of advice to brides?}
There are sooo many tips I'd like to give prides when planning their wedding! But my number one piece of advice is to leave plenty of time for private photos of the bride and groom, without the family and wedding party. By allowing time, we can capture truly romantic and personal inages of the two of you on your special day. Afterall, this is what your day is all about!

Meet Britini, the fashionista behind it all....

{Tell us a little about yourself and product.}I was born and raised in Poland, Ohio. Even as a little girl, my dream was always to become a fashion designer, so when it came time to choose a career, the decision was a very easy one! I received my bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion School at Kent State University in May of 2008. After graduating, I decided to try my hand in the corporate design world, and took a job designing for Abercrombie and Fitch. After about two and a hafl years of designing jeans and tee shirts, I decided it was time to stop putting my dream on hold. In February, I quit my job in order to pursue my life-long goal of starting my own fashion line. I chose to do bridal because of my extremely feminine aesthetic, and my love designing one-of-a-kind pieces.

BBG Couture designs and creates exclusive custom fitted dresses for special occasions. We specialize in wedding and evening gowns. The dresses are all made to order with high quality fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail. I work closely with each bride to create the perfect gown, customized from start to finish.

{When did you fall in love with fashion?}I been in love with fashion as long as I can remember! I started collecting magazine tears of celebrities on the red carpet when I was in middle school and I still reference some for inspiration today! I've been extremely blessed to know exactly what I want to do with my life and have the opportunity to try and make it happen.

{What is your #1 piece of advice for brides?}As a fashion designer, your wedding gown is the most important garment that you will ever wear and it should be a work of art. It's the one day you can get away with wearing something extraordinary-so you should!

Sit Outside the Box

Traditionally, wedding receptions have your 60 or 72 inch round tables with 8-10 chairs around them. Nowadays modern brides are wowing their guests with a wedding reception design that goes beyond the round banquet tables. Why not make your wedding reception look like you've invited them into the comfort of an intimate lounge or home? Comfy, cozy lounge seating makes it easy for guests to mix, mingle, and chillax.

You can rent furniture in white or black. White is more common and we actually prefer white as well. There is SO much versatility with lounge seating which include banquettes, love seats, benches, corner pieces, and ottomons. You can have so much fun piecing it together into a custom design. It can be set up in your cocktail hour. You can have seating around the dancefloor as a focal point within the reception. You can have a bar area seperate from the dance area where guests can mingle away from loud music, filled with lounge furniture, side/end tables instead of banquet/cocktail tables and chairs, creating an actual lounge. You can also use banquettes along one side of a long, rectangular dinner table with chairs on the opposite side.

We love this trending decor item. Using punches of colors with pillows, florals, and candles in your lounge area to compliment your wedding theme/colors ties it all together seamlessly and stylishly. Even throw in some lighted tables to create a beautiful glow. Lounge furniture is not a cheap decor item. However, if you are looking to step outside the box and take your design to another level, it's certainly an element to consider. Wedding Woes: The Guest List

9 times out of 10 we would say that our client's number one concern when planning a wedding is the BUDGET! Furthermore, 9 times out of 10, the GUEST LIST directly correlates to the budget. Weddings bring out all types of emotions from people you least expect it from. It can be very overwhelming and stressful to come up with a list of people to invite to the most important day in your life without breaking the bank. Everyone loves you and has been there for you in some type of way in your life so it is completely natural to feel obligated to let everyone share in your special day. So what do you do when the budget doesn't allow you to invite that old college roommate, your 2nd and 3rd cousins, your uncle and his family of five, or your parent's list of co-workers? You trim GRACIOUSLY :-)

Food and beverage expenses at the reception are always 48%-55% of your overall wedding budget. Because this is the biggest item, the guest list makes or breaks the budget. Not to mention that you are also paying for a favor, napkin, chair/chair cover, menu card, etc. per guest and as those numbers go up you are also increasing your table count, linens, centerpieces, and cake size needed. The fact of the matter is some people just cannot be invited. They may be slightly offended or not. The good news is they love and care for you so they will soon understand and get over it. Don't let guest list drama get the best of you or take away from the positive, fun experience of wedding planning. Finalizing your invited guest list is all about being organized, diplomatic, and realistic.

Here are a some suggestions that help our brides avoid stress and cut down on the guest list:

Determine priorities: immediate/close family and close friends.

Remove whole categories...no children, no co-workers, no relations beyond 1st cousins.

Limit the number of additional guests. For example, if your girlfriend Sarah is casually dating and is not in a serious, committed relationship you know of for any significant time, she does not get a plus one and will sit at a guest table amongst people she knows.

Hold the wedding on a non-traditional day/time. Friday and Sunday weddings are becoming more popular. Weekday weddings are also becoming options for couples.

Hold the wedding at a distant location. Money and traveling will deter people from attending.

Ask yourself questions such as, "Would I be offended if I weren't invited to their wedding?", "When is the last time I spoke to this person?"

Organize your guests into an A list & B list. Send out your A list first and for every no you receive, send out an invitation from your B List.

Communicate honestly. If someone is offended about not being invited, don't get offended or defensive. Simply respond, "Though we would love to have you there, our budget only allows us to have a certain number of people share this special occasion with us. If something changes, you will be the first to know."

Stand firm. If your number is 200, don't make exceptions. If you make an exception to 201, then 202....you will soon be at 220 because you will keep making exceptions.

Tried & True: Lace

The moment the world has been waiting for-Kate Middleton's wedding dress unveil! And then, the wedding of the century! To marry Prince William, the now Dutchess of Cambridge chose a simply-stated yet stunning design by Sarah Burton, head designer for the House of Alexander McQueen. The nip-waisted, sheer-laced long sleeves, v-neckline with a form-fitting bodice, full skirt with ruffle bustle at top, and 9 foot train paired with a laced edge veil was beyond appropriate for this modern fairy tale. SHE loved it! It was elegant, 1950-ish, and timeless. It seems to be a tradition that royal wedding gowns include lace. There is something very romantic, vintage, and regal about lace whether it's included in the actual gown or even just the veil. I'm sure Kate's dress selection inspired brides everywhere that lace works, always has and always will.

From the crystal chargers, stunning floral centerpiece, mini favor cakes, and coordinating stationery, this design was created for the modern, sophisticated bride that loves a little sparkle! Ultimate DIY Project: Wedding Card Box

There are many brides out there who aspire to be a DIY woman but is less-than-crafty. Well there's one project that is fool proof and will come out looking like it was done by a professional: Your wedding card box. It's a "must" for every wedding to hold all the generous gifts from your guests - Everyone is going to see it so give it some of your own wedding flare. If you search online for a custom one, you can spend upward of $70 but if you follow the step-by-step guide below, you can create yours for around $40 or less!

1.) Purchase papier mache boxes (aka hat boxes) - You can find these at your local craft store in a variety of sizes and shapes. Go with whatever works for the size of your wedding and what works for your taste

2.) Purchase fabric - look for fabric that has some weight but isn't too thick. Brocade is a fabulous fabric to use because it has some "body" and you can find some gorgeous designs. To cover three boxes you will need about 2.5 yards and with one box 1-1.5 yards should suffice. Remember this is all about your personal touch so have fun with colors, fabrics and mix and match!

3.) Purchase fabric glue and Wonder Under

/Stitch Witchery -- spray glue is best for this project and Wonder Under or Stitch Witchery is a ribbon of material that allows you to create a clean hem

with an iron (no sewing necessary!)

4.) Purchase any embellishments you may want - rhinestones, pearls, ribbon, etc.

**Be sure to look for coupons for your local craft store. They often have 40%-50% off a product which means you can save A LOT of $$$ **

5.) Cut a slit on the very top box where people will insert cards. Also cut a whole which mirrors the shape of the box in the boxes below (if you have multiple boxes. This isn't necessary if you only have one box). Cutting a whole allows the car ds to fall to the bottom. Make the whole slightly smaller than the box that will sit on top so once you assemble it, you wont see the cut out.

6.) Cover away!!!

- Cut the fabric to cover the height of the box and wrap around. Be sure to keep the seam in the back so you can hide it. Spray the glue onto the box and wrap around the box - not top to bottom). **Please note - if you use satin or silk, the glue will stain the fabric so be extremely careful**

- Cover the Lid -- this is simple, just cut a piece of fabric that will cover the top and wrap slightly along the sides. Once you cover the top make slight cuts/snips along the edge of the fabric so it looks like teeth. This will allow you to fold the fabric along the sides without any wrinkles and is especially necessary if you use round boxes

- Cover the sides of the lids (aka the lip) -- this is where you will need the Wonder Under or Stitch Witchery. Cut a thin piece of fabric that is about two-times the height of the lip of the lid. Fold over the one side and place the hemming product in the fold. Iron down along the length of the fabric. Then adhere fabric to the lip with the glue with the hemmed side along the top. This gives you a wonderful, clean edge and it will cover those snipped edges that were glued down when covering the top. Fold the excess fabric using the same small cut/snip technique underneath the lid.

- Repeat all these steps for all boxes if you are utilizing more than one

7.) Glue the individual boxes together using a glue gun or strong adhesive. Fabric glue probably will not be strong enough

7.) Add embellishments as you see fit -- wrapping a ribbon around and making a bow is simple but beautiful. Add some bling or some pearls -- w

With a decade deeply influenced by fashionista icons, like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, we find ourselves a half-a-century later inspired by the the remarkable lines and silhouettes of their day.

Their looks were chic and sophisticated, and today we see so many bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses taking core elements of 1950s style and giving it a modern twist.

In Lieu of Favors

A lot of time and thought goes into every single detail of a wedding, including the favor -- it is one of the ways you can express your appreciation to your guests. While it's always a great momento for your loved ones to take home, way too often, the favor is left behind at the end of the day. Because of this, many brides and their grooms have decided to forego the tangible gift and make a contribution on their behalf as well as those who joined them on their special day.

It's an incredible way to not only make an impact but also add a personal flare. If you and your significant other are huge dog lovers, you may decide to make a donation to your local humane society. Or if you or someone you love is a cancer survivor, you can always make a charitable contribution to the American Cancer Society. The list of charities who are continuously striving for monetary support is never-ending. Making a donation is lieu of favors is a thoughtful touch, a way to include philanthropy into your wedding and allows you to show an attitude for gratitude.

DIY: Proceed with Caution

Kudos to the crafty DIY bride -- you should be applauded for wanting to give your wedding day your own personal, special touch. DIY projects are taken on for a variety of reasons -- #1 reason: Save some $. While web surfing for wedding ideas you inevitably will come across a wedding detail -- whether it's a centerpiece, favor or super chic decor element that you just know you can re-create yourself without the lofty price tag....but beware those simple DIY projects, which often consist of many elements, products and detail can add up...BIG TIME!

Have I lost you -- if so, here is a concrete example of where a DIY would have been better off being a TDI

(They'll Do It):

The Pomander/Kissing Ball -- perfect to adorn the pew or chairs at your wedding ceremony - who doesn't love them and they often can get a bit costly. They seem to be a perfect candidate for a good ole DIY project. After purchasing the foam balls (which you can find fairly inexpensively) you have to completely cover them with flowers and even with the smallest foam balls you need a lot of flowers. Add that expense to the cost of glue, ribbon and the time investment necessary to create several depending on your ceremony seating arrangement and....unfortunately at the same price -- possibly less -- you could have paid to have someone else make these adorable arrangements.

By no means are we trying to deter the fabulous DIY bride from taking on projects of her own -- instead it's just to encourage you to pick and choose which projects you want to take on and which ones you will leave to a pro. Heavily consider the time it will take to make the piece(s), as well as all the products.

Destination I Do: Pros & Cons

Working from Paradise Island this week, has me thinking all things destination, beautiful weather, beach, and outdoors. What decor design could be more breathtaking than the crystal clear ocean and bright blue sky as your landscape? More importantly, these fabulous elements are FREE. I love the idea of combining refined elegance with a laid-back setting.

Having a hard time narrowing down a venue you love? Just think of all the gorgeous places there are to choose from....Jamaica, St. Lucia, Cabo San Lucas, Aruba, Punta Cana, Bahamas, Hawaii...the list goes on and on.

Destination weddings have been a growing trend for years now. Not sure if a wedding-away-from-home is right for you? Check out these pros and cons from About.com and weigh the option.

Pro: A Complete Package
Resorts and tourism organizations offer many complimentary services to make your destination wedding stress-free and simple. On-site planners will help you coordinate all the ceremony and reception essentials (marriage license, officiant, cake, food, dj, band, etc.).

Con: The Distance & Legal Red Tape
Juggling all the details from a distance can become stressful if you don't have assistance with these details. You might run into complications when trying to get a marriage license that's why you should have a planner or coordinator to help you over these speed bumps.

Pro: Avoid Stressful Family Situations
With a smaller invitation list, you can avoid feeling "forced" to invite the cousin you can't stand, or the in-law that everyone fights with. Keep it intimate. Just invite your very close friends and family.

Con: Some Family and Friends May Not Be There
Some guests will not attend due to the expense, or the difficulty getting time of off work. Olders guests may not feel comfortable or be able to travel far away from home.

Pro: Saves Money
You will save alot of money by not having 200 people at the reception. Spending a luxuirous weekend in a dramatic destination often costs less than a seated dinner at a nice location. It is proper etiquette to try and cover some guests expenses i.e. hotel stay, food & beverage. Guests pay for their own airfare and depending on the budget it is not unusual for them to cover their own hotel and airfare.

Con: No Money
Again, some of your friends and family may not be able to afford to pay for travel accommodations. Consider paying for some of your guests and look into group discounts through travel agents.

Pro: Combining the Wedding and Honeymoon
Killing two birds with one stone is another reason to have the trip of a lifetime in a beautiful location.

Con: Lots to do, Will You Really Get a Honeymoon?
Yes! You will get some romantic time alone but it is important that you schedule it and insist on it. Arrive a few days before everyone else and leave a few days later than everyone else.

Boy Meets Girl: Andrew & Amy

This adorable pair met at the University of Pittsburgh's Medical School. Amy is in her last year of medical school and Andrew is in his first year residency so you can just imagine how busy they are! I'm thoroughly enjoying the planning process with them. If Amy can't make an appointment, Andrew fills both bride and groom shoes AND she trusts his judgement. Not too many brides can do that. I love it!

This time next year, the doctor and future doctor will tie the knot in Pittsburgh at Calvary Episcopal Church followed by a fabulous fall-themed reception at the Sheraton Station Square. Christina Montemurro did a beautiful job capturing their sweet yet fun personalities during their engagement session on a typical, fall day at Frick Park.

I'm looking forward Amy & Andrew's big day next September! Thanks Christina for sharing!

This teenage love affair is becoming official! High school sweethearts, Lattia & Kirk, are tying the knot this weekend! Miss Tia is easy-going and down-to-earth and her hubby-to-be's mellow 'tude compliments her well. Tia was so easy to work with!

On Saturday August 14, 2010, they will say "I Do" in front of 200 guests at Wesley AME Church in Pittsburgh, PA. The reception will follow at Olympia Hall in East Pittsburgh, PA.

Thanks for letting {SHE} be apart of your BIG day! Here's to Mr. & Mrs. Kirk Delarosa!

Boy Meets Girl: Demetreus & Monica

It's all about Monica & Demetreus this weekend! These two are such cutie patooties! Monica is very simple and beyond sweet; her hubby-to-be is a man's man! Monica was so not into all the "planning stuff". After some pep talks from "Momma Planner" (as she named me lol) she quickly got into the swing of it and I'm so proud of her. Usually my groom's play the sideline, however Demetreus played a significant part in the planning as well so it all balanced out!

Their wedding day is Sunday August 8, 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA. The ceremony will be held at Fountain of Life Church and the reception will be held at the ballroom of Comfort Inn Conference Center.

Here's to Mr. & Mrs. Darden-to-be...I'm SO happy to be apart of your special day...I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Celeb Nuptials-A 'V'ery Busy Wedding Weekend

The infamous 'V' designers that a bride dreams of wearing on their wedding day took centerstage amongst this weekend's celebrity weddings. Singer Alicia Keys and Producer Swizz Beatz married in a ceremony at a private home on the Mediterranean Sea surrounded by a close circle of family and friends. Alicia wore a Vera Wang Grecian-inspired dress and carried a bouquet of purple calla lilies. Beatz wore a Tom Ford tuxedo.

Back in the states, Chelsea Clinton wed Marc Mezvinksy in Rhineback, NY, against a backdrop of arched windows and columns designed to evoke the White House. Chelsea wore a strapless silk organza Vera Wang gown that was embellished with a glittery belt. Her husband-to-be wore a tuxedo designed by a family friend, who happens to be Burberry's creative director.

Another Hip-Hop/R&B duo said "I do" Miami-style. Rapper, T.I. and long-time girlfriend, Tiny, of the R&B group, Xscape, had an intimate wedding ceremony on Star Island in Miami, FL. Tiny wore a Valentino dress while T.I. wore a white, custom-made Prada tuxedo.

Alicia, Chelsea, and Tiny looked absolutely FAB in their 'V' gowns! Their guys didn't look to shabby either =)

Summer Tip/Trend #2: Fresh Florals

1. Choose hearty flowers-opt for flowers that will endure the elements of the day. Orchids, ginger halcyons, birds-of-paradise, lilies, calla lilies, sunflowers, and even roses will champion high temperatures.

2. Maintain your blooms-the higher the temperature, the more upkeep your wedding day flowers require. Have them delivered the day of the wedding and make sure there is a refrigerator to store them before the ceremony starts. If your blooms will be exposed to the summer heat for an extended amount of time, keep a spray water bottle on hand and give your flowers a light misting every hour or so.

3. Bright & Bold-Opt for eye-catching hues in your floral design. Be considerate of whether your wedding is in the day or evening so you can choose your palette according.

4. Bouquets-Be cautious of getting oversized bouquets. A smaller, hand-tied bouquet will hold up in the heat better than a full, cascading one.

Children's birthdays are such a BIG deal nowadays! I remember my birthday parties at a McDonald's party room, a skating rink, or just cake and ice cream at home. These days a first birthday party can have a 75+ guest list and be held at a venue! That's a Sweet 16 or small wedding! Parents are going above and beyond for their little ones at age one, two, three, four, and so on! They want to WOW their guests with unique themes, cool decor, and fun favors....they even hire planners to do so!

It's a 'Burgh Thing :-)

A wedding in Pittsburgh just isn't a wedding without COOKIES! After the 'I Do's' and dinner, guests are anticipating the infamous 'Cookie Table'. For some time now, wedding receptions in Pittsburgh have featured cookie tables with dozens of assorted, homemade (or freshly baked) cookies. It is a tradition reflecting the diverse ethnic communities of steel mill towns in Western Pennsylvania. The women in the family get together, pull out old recipes, and bake cookies for the BIG day.

You can always keep it basic and display your cookies on trays OR you can have a little fun and add some fun shapes, cool containers, tiered trays, cute labels, and even a shot of milk. Either way, if you are having a wedding in Pittsburgh, the cookie table is a must-have!

Often times weddings and special events leave you completely clueless on WHAT TO WEAR? You always get the wording on the invitation..."black tie", "semi-formal", "cocktail", etc. But what exactly does that mean? Here is a cheat sheet so that you can look FABULOUS and APPROPRIATE at your next wedding or event!

{White Tie} The most formal of all dress codes...

Ladies-A formal, full-length ball gown in a neutral color like dark brown or black. Glamorous makeup, dramatic jewelry, pinned/pulled up hair are appropriate.

Gentlemen-A tuxedo, a long black jacket with tails, a white pique vest, and a bow tie. Black, formal shoes, and even white gloves are appropriate.

{Black Tie} The next most formal dress code and it's usually an evening affair...
Ladies-A chic cocktail dress or a long evening gown in a dark, neutral color like brown or black. Make sure the length is appropriate if you do a cocktail dress.

Gentlemen-A tuxedo. A black bow tie, cummerbund, and patent leather shoes are also suggested.

{Formal or Black Tie Optional} Slightly less formal than a black tie which means a tuxedo is not required but the event is formal enough for one to be appropriate...

Ladies-A long dress, a dressy suit, or a formal cocktail-length dress in a dark, neutral tone like brown, gray, or black.

Gentlemen-A tuxedo or a formal dark suit and tie.

{Beach Formal, Beach Attire, or Summer Chic} "Beach formal" suggests an elegant beach wedding -- so dress to impress, but also dress for the elements (sun, sand, and water). "Beach Attire" and "Summer Chic" denotes that anything you'd wear to a nice restaurant on a summer day is appropriate...

Ladies: A formal summer sundress at tea- or knee-length with low or high sandals. Makeup and hair can be natural and everyday.

Gentlemen: A summer suit with a linen shirt (no ties required), linen pants or khakis, and sandals.

{Semiformal, Dressy Casual, or Cocktail} Depending on the time of the event, you'll want to dress somewhere between formal and casual. Wear darker, more formal hues for an evening fete; opt for light colors and fabrics for a daytime affair...
Ladies-A cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top.

Gentlemen-A suit and tie, dark or light depending on the season and time of day.

{Casual} Generally, casual means anything goes. That said, jeans, shorts, and tank tops are probably not appropriate unless they're specifically noted as acceptable. For the purposes of wedding wear, assume business casual to be on the safe side.
Ladies-A summer sundress or a skirt or pants with a nice blouse. Makeup and hair can be natural and everyday.

Gentlemen-Dress pants with a button-down shirt or polo.

Engagement sessions are very popular these days. Often times the session is included in the photography package a couple selects for their wedding. The idea is to have FUN in front of the camera and let the lenses capture your LOVE. The location, what you wear, props, and poses should reflect your personality and who you are as a couple. Some couples do not feel it is necessary to do an engagement shoot but there are several reasons they are important. These sessions allow the photographer to see how you interact with each other in front of the camera, learn your best angles, and it lessens camera shyness before the BIG day. Here are some simple ideas to get good use out of your engagement pictures....

Since the beginning of time, the bride goes out and buys the white dress, the white veil, the white garter, matching jewelry, and WHITE shoes! Nowadays, wedding fashion is not all about white on white on white. Alot of women are going with off-white/ivory dresses and making a statement with a colored shoe. I LOVE this look! It's fun, stylish, a great way to incorporate your wedding color(s), and it looks fantastic in pictures! Some brides are conservative and traditional so of course this look is not for everyone. But if you are a fashionista and want to add a little "umph" to your ensemble, a pair of haute heels in the perfect hue is a fabulous way to do it!

I officially launched i AMakeup this past spring (2010) and while I just began my own freelance makeup business, I’ve done makeup for quite some time. I have had friends ask me to do their makeup for a wedding, including my friend’s last summer in Dallas (I did several bridesmaids!) or a ladies’ night out. I also worked at an Aveda salon while living in Columbus, OH, where I provided makeup application services for clients who wanted to complete their look after getting their hair done.

My motto for i AMakeup is “full, high-quality makeup services at a gorgeous price!” I made the decision to start my business shortly after getting engaged and learning what all goes into your special day. It can get hectic and expensive, which is why I will come to you, regardless of your makeup needs and event, and offer extremely reasonable prices to make everything that much more seamless. I LOVE what I do and helping others bring out their beauty, and that in itself is so rewarding.

{When did you fall in love with makeup?}
I can honestly say that I fell in love with makeup the minute my mom gave the “green light” to try out a few things in the 7th grade. Granted, I was limited to lipstick, blush and mascara, but I found creativity in just those three pieces. From there, I explored, played and shopped, shopped and shopped. I became a makeup junkie in my teen years and found such great excitement trying something new, whether it was a new eyeshadow shade, lip gloss hue or style to apply eyeliner.

{What is your #1 piece of advice for your clients?}
Be attentive to your natural assets and play them up! I am not a fan of someone looking so “done up” that they look like a completely different person without makeup – you should simply enhance what God gave you. However, if you have amazing almond-shaped eyes, work the shadow, liner and load on the mascara (or false lashes). If you have the most phenomenol pouty lips, don’t let them get lost with just a chapstick or let them go bare. Give them some extra punch with a high-intensity gloss or a bright, bold color if you are daring. Or if you have a chiseled bone structure to die for, work the angles with a highlighter cream and further contour your cheek bones. If you focus on your best feature, you can be minimal with everything else, and simply, watch draws drop!

Summer Tip/Trend #1: Keep Guests Cool

Summer heat can cause guests to quickly become uncomfortable. If any part of your wedding is outdoors or guests have to commute from ceremony to reception, provide relief from the hot summer sun by incorporating a few tips and tricks to beat the heat. Consider these ideas to allow guests to relax, stay cool, and enjoy your special day.

1. Have hand-held fans available for guests. Engrave your names and wedding date onto the fans, and they can double as a wedding favor. You can also create your program in a fan format. Consider placing the fans on chairs before the guests arrive or arranging fans near the guest book for easy access. Or go slightly more high-tech and opt for personal battery-operated fans. Add parasols for guests who may want extra shade from the heat and sun.

2. Offer bottled water to guests as they wait for the ceremony to begin. Place water bottles in buckets of ice water around the ceremony location. Keep water bottles cool by storing plenty of ice in extra coolers. Assign someone to replenish the water bottles or to offer them to guests upon their arrival. Or, you can set up a small refreshment station with pitchers of water, lemonade or iced tea so guests can serve themselves. To add some style, add personalized labels to the water bottles.

3. Plan the wedding ceremony during the coolest part of a summer day, possibly right before sunset. Have outdoor lighting available in case the wedding ceremony lasts longer than expected.

4. Avoid using metal chairs for guests to sit on. The sun will heat the chairs, making them uncomfortable for guests to sit on.

5. If ceremony, cocktail, and reception are all (or mostly) outdoors, provide an indoor spot with access to air-conditioning if guests become overheated. Assign someone to mention the "cool room" to guests as they arrive for the ceremony.

6. Choose light foods for appetizers, and for the meal, go with cool salads, seafood, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Limit or eliminate hot food items from the menu and offer freshly made sangria for an alcoholic beverage. Discuss with your caterer the importance of featuring foods that won't spoil or wilt in summer heat.

7. Offer cool treats! (i.e. snow cone, ice cream, popsicle, ice cream sandwich, etc.)

8. Remind your guests to wear light clothing (summer chic) for the ceremony.

Haute Topic: Bloomin' Stationery

On tonight's episode of My Fair Wedding, my fav, David Tutera, created magic (yet again) and designed a one-of-a-kind, whimsical spring wedding. Keeping with the spring theme, he highlighted the escort cards that were made out of flower seed paper--handmade paper embedded with seeds that can be planted. I absolutely adore this idea! Eco-friendly, eco-chic, and unique!

If you think about it, there is a TON of paper used (and unfortunately wasted) when planning a wedding or event. You can use plantable paper for invitations, favors, gifts, thank you cards, tags, labels, programs, menus, wrapping paper, confetti, you name it! It can also be used as everyday stationery. The paper comes in a variety of colors/designs and there are many choices of flowers. You can also customize the paper and seed type.

Little-To-No-Flowers

Centerpieces and flowers are always a BIG topic when it comes to the design part of weddings and events. Alot of my brides this season are not big on flowers and want little-to-no-flowers as part of their overall table decor. Being a flower-type-of-girl, my immediate thoughts were "no flowers, no way!" Talking further with my brides, their real concerns were how costly flowers are and I could not agree more! Depending on the type of flower, size, complexity of design, and number of tables you have, this element can get very pricey. Some brides want to go all out for their floral design and some just want to keep it simple.

To cut costs, more and more brides are forgoing elaborate floral designs, alot are having do-it-yourself (DIY) flowers, some are using faux flowers, and some are doing away with flowers completely. Flowers typically add the POP of color(s) in the table decor; however you can use linens, ribbon, napkins, glassware, candles, stones, fruit, desserts, colored water, submersible colored lighting, feathers, branches, stationary, favors, etc. to add your wedding colors/style throughout the table design.

Check out these centerpiece ideas for dinner and cocktail tables that use minimal or no flowers at all! All of these can be DIY projects, incorporate faux flowers, and save you $$$ without compromising style!
